I would appreciate any information regarding
the release plans for Salome 1. Is it going to be included in the next distribution of Opencascade ?
To me Salome is a very important product which can be usefull for many industrial applications.
Having an idea about the realase date and eventually about the license costs (if not freewere) would be a great help for everybody is planning to use it for a particular application.

It look a bit "going down the drain" to me, there where 13 press releases 2001 and 1 under 2002,

I do think there was a message in the forum that it would be out before the end of 2002, but that did not happen, but if this works as i it usually does around here there will not be anything about it until suddenly it pops up somewhere.... "ohhh it's finished now, did we forget to tell you, sorry"

The last newsletter "Open CASCADE Integrates ALLIANCES" lets me think that the situation is not so bad. Indeed there it is stated that "Since October 2002, the Open CASCADE Company has been the prime contractor in charge of industrializing SALOME" and that "As of today the first industrial version of the SALOME platform has been completed".
On that basis it should be reasonable to assume an imminent publication of Salome. I would alsa guess that it could be included in the next realese of Opencascade. This would be coherent with the OpenCascade practice of making of his flagship product an omnicomprensive package.
What really I can't understand is the absolute secretness reserved to all this topic from the Opencascade Team.
Every other Software Company would have announced
the next release of an important software tool such as Salome with a great emphasis.

I am sure you know more about SALOME than I do, I don't know much at all about it, but as you say, the problem is that we have no idea if it dead or very well alive because there is not one zip of information available...as usual

Yes that is the problem. The informations are available to the paying customers and project partners but not to the community.
I hope to be wrong but that lets me think that Opencascade is loosing its interest and commitment in the open source model (why spend many millions of Euro to develop a product and then give it away for nothing?).
May be that OpenCascade is changing its business model and Salome is not considered anymore an open code.
In any case I think that the Company should spend a few words to clarify what is happening within the Salome Project.

The news section on www.opencascade.com says:
"Success Highlight. The CEA and ANDRA research centers, leaders in the domain of nuclear energy, aim to improve the productivity and availability of the "ALLIANCES" simulation codes by building on SALOME, a generic, open-source platform for numerical simulation."
That should indicate the SALOME will be open source, but with OpenCASCADE you never know for sure...
