Paris, December 21, 2001 – A recent publication by the French Ministry of Economy, Finances and Industry, entitled “La R&D industrielle, une clé pour l’avenir: six cas exemplaires d’entreprises” (Industrial Research and Development, a Key to the Future: Six Outstanding Company Examples), features EADS Matra Datavision as one of six industrial companies whose success is attributed, in large part, to an innovative and extensive R&D approach. Presented to the public by France’s Secretary of State for Industry, Christian Pierret, during a press conference held November 26, 2001, this book is the result of the collective experience of the French General Directorate for Industry, Information Technology and Posts (DiGITIP). It highlights successful R&D programs with the aim of stimulating French companies’ R&D initiatives.
Company projects were selected according to the following criteria:
- pertinence and scope of the project,
- innovation,
- scientific and technical perspectives,
- quality consciousness and strength of partnerships,
- precision of planning,
- clearness of presentation.
“Bold innovations in company strategy”
EADS Matra Datavision and its Open CASCADE subsidiary were selected for their work on an inventive project known as SALOME (Numerical Simulation Based on Open-source Software Architecture). Developed in co-operation with eight Open CASCADE partners, the SALOME project allows adding CAD functionality to analysis applications and integrates a number of existing solvers into an open-source framework based on Open CASCADE components. SALOME is featured in a dedicated chapter entitled “Bold Innovations in Company Strategy.” According to the publication, “This project creates a new economical model in the IT sector that favors the promotion of software-related services.” |
