| Leading industrial users of the Open CASCADE development platform will be on hand to present a variety of trade-specific applications |
Paris, February 22, 2001 – Open CASCADE will emphasize the development of industrial applications using open-source components on stand J 37 at MICAD 2001, France's leading CAD/CAM show, which will be held at the Porte de Versailles in Paris from March 6 - 8. A growing number of companies and industrial research centers are choosing Open CASCADE, the leading open-source software for the development of scientific and technical applications, for two primary reasons: it is available as an accessible, non-proprietary alternative to commercial software applications, and it is accompanied by a complete offer of services, ranging from project support to specific application development.
Industrial applications built with Open CASCADE
During the three-day period, Open CASCADE's industrial partner Optis will demonstrate its SPEOS software, designed for engineers who create mechanical parts that include complex optical systems. Other Open CASCADE users on the stand include:
- Christophe Abel, Development Engineer for the CIRTES, who will present the OrthoStrato® application for modeling orthopedic devices;
- Philippe Carret of Aléker, who will demonstrate Obvie 2.0, a specialized CAD application that targets professional woodworkers;
- Pierre Benjamin, Project Manager at the Corporate Research Center (CCR) of EADS, who will explain the ASERIS-FD project, which uses Open CASCADE components to develop a robust link between CAD models and the pre- and postprocessing software developed in-house at the CCR;
- Nicolas Chevassus, Project Manager at EADS CCR, who will describe the benefits of the ANATOLE tolerance simulation application, created to ensure optimal assembly of the thousands of mechanical parts that make up an Airbus plane.
The Open CASCADE technical team will also provide two on-going demonstrations:
- the CAD-Pak application from Mitutoyo, internationally known as an innovator in metrology;
- the new features of Open CASCADE Certified Version 3.1 for data exchange and 3D modeling.
The team will also show how Open CASCADE components are put together to develop a specific
application. Visitors to the stand will have hands-on access to the data exchange components and
the Open CASCADE viewer.
SALOME featured in MICADO conference
As part of the MICADO conference on simulation, Dr. Imad Toumi of the Center of Atomic Studies (CEA) will present the SALOME project on Thursday, March 8. Based on Open CASCADE, SALOME brings together eight project members, who represent leading French industrial companies, research organizations, and software editors. Their goal is to produce an open-source framework that will link CAD and analysis applications and allow the integration of existing solvers. |
