| Paris, January 19, 2001 - As project leader, the Open CASCADE team will provide development services to eight leading French industrial companies, research organizations and software editors |
Following certification from the National Network of Software Technologies (RNTL), the SALOME application development project has received financial backing from the French Secretary of State for Industry. The SALOME project aims to produce an open-source framework based on Open CASCADE components that will link CAD and analysis applications and allow integration of existing solvers. SALOME partners are CEA/DMT, EDF R&D, Bureau Véritas, EADS CCR, INPG/LEG, Principia, CEDRAT, LIP 6 and the Open CASCADE company. As project leader, the Open CASCADE company will furnish development services to the eight project members, representing industrial companies, research organizations, and software editors.
By September 2002, project members hope to have completed the application framework, which will
be created in three steps. Step one centers on defining framework architecture, step two focuses on the production of the different modules needed, and step three concerns validation of the results. The Open CASCADE company will also provide a cooperative development environment on the opencascade.org site that will offer a bulletin board for publishing project results, thereby making them available to the worldwide developer community. The project site (in French) is located on the Internet at http://www.opencascade.org/SALOME/Salome.html.
The CAD-to-analysis link can be integrated within the simulation chain of applications used for
industrial purposes. The automated result will allow companies working with digital mock-ups to lower costs and shorten the test cycle by reducing the number of physical tests. For editors of simulation software, the link will enable integrating their products with the CAD solutions used by their customers through facilitated recovery of geometric data.
Within SALOME, the Open CASCADE company will provide the project partners with training and
consulting services on the Open CASCADE platform. The SALOME project has led the Open CASCADE company to create a team of analysis professionals who can provide expertise to
companies wishing to link CAD to analysis. |
